At the former naval hospital at Great Yarmouth we restored the existing shutters and built new matching shutters to replace those that had been lost. The building is a former naval hospital that closed in 1993 and was later sold for private development, according to rnhgy.org.uk. Old and new now sit together as one set, doing the job the originals were made for.

We order each one to your size and material, with the face frame size specified by you. British made hinges are used in the doors and frames, so the moving parts match the quality of the timber.

How soon will EMEU reply, and how long does the joinery take to make?

We reply to enquiries within one to three working days, and the time to make a piece depends on its size, material and specification. Because every commission is made to order, we confirm the lead time for your particular piece at the initial meeting, once we know what it is and what it is made from. Typical lead times for made to order joinery are two to eight weeks. What we can say from the start is the order of work, so you know what happens first and what follows through to completion.

Does EMEU cover my area?

We work across north Norfolk predominantly and wider Norfolk, from our base in Holt. Our joinery has gone into buildings around the region, including shutter work at the former naval hospital at Great Yarmouth. Do you fit the doors, or supply them?

We do both. We can fit the door ourselves, or supply it for your own carpenter to hang. Bespoke doors are made for your home and supplied oversized, so the door can be trimmed and hung to the exact opening. If we are fitting, we hang the door and match the hinges and door furniture to what is already in the room, in chrome, stainless steel or brass. If your own carpenter is fitting, supplying oversized leaves the final fit in their hands. Either way the door is made to suit both the opening and the room it serves.

Will you work on a period or historic building?

Yes. We have carried out joinery on period and historic buildings, including Regency period shutters and shutter work at the former naval hospital at Great Yarmouth.

Can you replace missing or damaged joinery to match the original?
